How do you celebrate diversity? As a person of color, diversity is a source of inspiration for change, strength, and empowerment. February is the Black History Month. Reflecting on our past will help us learn and be wise. Looking to the future for change gives us hope and strength.
Digging into your own cultural roots can be a great self-discovery process and celebration of diversity within oneself. Here are few creative ways you can explore your cultural diversity.
Draw a family tree to learn about your family roots. Take time to talk to family members to discover stories that you have never known before. Feel the connection with your ancestors. Become empowered by their rich life history!
On a sheet of paper, create a collage using magazines. Cut out pictures and phrases to create your own art. Find images that represent your identity and culture. When you think of culture, think about more than your race or nationality. Include what you do, what you like etc. For example, I am Asian, Therapist, Dancer, Cat lover.
When you embrace where you’ve been, it may help you reach peaceful acceptance and clarify which path you must take. If you are interested in talking about diversity or needing support in the cultural self-discovery process, contact me at sara@intouchandmotion.com
