Fall As A Long Exhale: Releasing with Mindful Art

By Farah S. A., MAATC, Psychotherapist, Art Therapist

As the season transitions into Fall, it reminds us that letting go can look beautiful. A long exhale of shedding and releasing what we have held on to. There is no need to hold our breath. It reminds us it is safe to let go and turn inward and reconnect with ourselves.

Here is a gentle drawing technique to check-in with yourself and set your intentions of what you want to let go of this Fall:

Materials:

Sketchbook or any preferred drawing surface.

Your choice of Pastels, Markers, or Watercolors.

Steps:

  1. Play some relaxing music, close your eyes and center yourself as you turn your gaze inward. (Take as much time as you need to feel settled and centered.)
  2. Take 5 deep breaths with long exhales.
  3. On the final exhale, allow yourself to peak into what your exhale looks like.
  4. Open your eyes and draw what you saw yourself exhaling and what you were letting go.
